Tree

08Dec

Just wanted to show our first tree together! It didn’t take us long to find it at the Christmas tree lot. We like it. My sad little tree skirt needs some help though. I think I want to make one for next year. Soft white with pom poms maybe. This is just gray felt left over from when I was a shark for Halloween.

Oh and here’s the easiest DIY ornament ever. Since we didn’t have many ornaments and a lot of time to make many, we bought some clear ornaments at ACMoore and some red floral wire (the basic green stuff would work too). We then just stuffed the floral wire inside. That’s it. It comes out to be a crazy wire design which looks pretty cool!

Envelope liners

01Nov

I just love me some envelope liners. It’s such an easy way to give those notes or invitations that extra “umph!”. Plus, you can go nuts with it – patterns, photograph, vintage book illustrations, maps…

Oh and here’s a DIY on how to make your own. Although, I just use a gluestick and it seems to work well.

Inky Co. goodies

12Oct

I recently came across this amazing online store from Australia, Inky Co. They have such fun (and preeetty) paper goods and supplies. And, they even have a DIY section on their site. I have been into a neutral color scheme mood lately so my eye immediately was drawn to all of their black and white goodies…especially the black and white washi tape – awesome!

{ From top left: 1. Kraft tag 2. Scissor string spool 3. Matte white washi tape 4. Grosgrain ribbon 5. String in a tin 6. Black tags 7. Black pen and pencil 8. Matte black washi tape }

DIY basket

23Aug

Here’s a fun tutorial that Sarah over at Sarah Hearts found via Martha Stewart. All you need is a paper plate and some washi tape. Now if only I had a little garden where I could pick berries … it’d be a perfect little gift!

Before & After

06Jul

Hey it’s my own little attempt of a before&after! We got this…”hutch”. Yes, I’ll say it. I never thought I’d ever buy something like this but it happened. But Kevin and I didn’t buy it for our dishes, we bought to be a display case. And it was $20 on craigslist. How can you say no to that? So with $20 and $10 worth of exotic, handmade paper from Paper Source, we did our own little DIY:

And ta-da! I took off the back panel (chipboard or something cheap) and spray mounted the paper and reinforced the seam in the middle with a gluestick. It is such a big space in the back that I did have to try and make the seam blend in. It’s hard to tell with my cheap-o camera but the flowers on the paper are actually metallic which is so fun. Then we filled it with our stuff and that was it! We will probably paint it in the future to take it to the next level of fabulous.

Next time I’ll try and do more step by step instructions with photos because there were a few tricks that may be useful for you all.

Stuff

04May

Karen is the creator of the blog, “The Art of Doing Stuff“. And I’m SO glad I found this blog. She’s hilariously cheeky. And has lots of fun, useful tips and projects for your home, recipes, how-tos and everything else.

Like this one, “how to make a tree stump table“. Awesome!

She’s even got a whole section on stuff from the dollar store to create with. Like painting this bird white (which, I think I have this exact same bird that cost me $3 waay back when…):

Anyway, check out the blog and you’ll have a good time, guaranteed. And probably learn a few things!

It’s a shower

04Apr

Now that we’re into “April showers”, I saw this and just had to show you all. Of all the bridal and baby showers you’ve gone to or hosted, have you ever been to a “shower” theme? Lisa Storms (aptly named!) tried it out and it’s perfect for a baby shower. It’s really sweet and, in my opinion, cuter than a pink duck in a diaper like many baby showers lean toward.

I absolutely love the raindrops! And they’re so easy to make: Lisa Storm’s how-to’s are here.
